Not on Saturday

At the park on Saturday, we walked around.

I would reach down and grab her up.
When the going was tough...
mulch, sandtrap sandbox, and try to steer her around the puddles...
trying to keep her somewhat clean.

Clean at least until she ran right towards the mud and dove in.

But then...

as we were watching a kite fly...
the monster reached up and grabbed my hand.

She held it for a long, long time.
Minutes - multiples of them.

Long enough for me to stop being choked up...
and see our shadows...
and get all choked up again.

Long enough for me to try and burn this feeling and image in my head.

Long enough to look for camera...
carefully, so not to disturb the hand holding...
and take 20 rapid fire pictures.

She kept holding it almost all the way to the stroller...
just walking along beside me like this happens everyday.

Until she saw another mud puddle.

I had dreamt about that...
the hand holding.
Before she was even here.

Someday she will forget to hold my hand.
She will be too old for such things.

But not on Saturday.

Visit to see more.

I love it when my sweetheart holds my hand, just because. This is such a sweet post :)

Such a sweet and special moment. And what you said at the end is true, it's like pulling teeth to get my 5 year old to hold my hand...I miss those days already!

What a wonderful memory. What I wouldn't give for my son to initiate a hand hold. Usually I'm holding his and dragging him away from something dangerous!!

My 7 year old will still initiate a random hand-hold before he has time to realize how uncool it is and let go. Still rocks my world, though regardless of how brief and fleeting. Sweet pic, too.
