the good when it's bad

Untitled
Friends who drop everything to rush over and Eva sit and bring pink paint to make fun art projects.
Thank you Carri and Jesse.
Thank you mom and dad for scooping her up that evening...
I know she is in the best hands with Goggy and Poppy.
Untitled
A wonderful gift that arrived at just the perfect time...
Right when I was holding my little man for the first time in a few days.
Thank you Adrienne.
Untitled
Visitors and grandparents.
Keeping our minds occupied and let us run and eat, shower and rush back.
Thank you family and friends.
Untitled
Yummy treats delivered to your front door to celebrate being home.
Sugar butter and strawberries... comfort in a bite.
Thank you Amy.

It seems with things go bad, the good somehow always rises to the top.
Little bits at a time, that lift you up and carry you.

I know it has been a few weeks,
but things finally feel like they are getting back to normal.

Thank you to everyone.
There were so many well wishes and prayers.
Cards and meals.
Emails and internet love.
Phone calls and text messages.
Visitors and hugs.

Every single word, thought and gesture meant more than you know.
All in all, we ended the mess with a healthy Theodore...
and the feeling that there is so much love in this world.

Valentine's

Untitled

Valentine's mean love.

That's what Eva will say if you ask her.
It's her favorite holiday and she will tell you Happy Valentine's Day year round.
Especially if you are her Goggy and Poppy.

I have a whole lot of love to celebrate.
Family, friends, babies.
All kinds of good stuff.

Michael is on his way home with Thai food.
We have plans for a family movie and some couch cuddling.
Watching it snow with heart shaped cookies.

Happy Love Day.

Eight

Dear Michael,

Happy Anniversary.
Eight years of being Mr. and Mrs.
And it is only beginning.

IMG_8646

I have been thinking a lot...
our first apartment.
our first house.

Then I go back even further...
our first high school dance.
our first kiss.

It is funny the things you almost forget...
until you think about them again.

Picking out our first green couch.
Packing the last box and standing in our empty apartment.

Looking out over the deck after we were first married.
Looking out from the the hotel roof in Florence 5 years later.

I think about how afraid we were...
to go from two happy married people...
to a family.

Worried it would make things hard.
Promising that we wouldn't let it change us.

It did change us - and we broke our promise.
But in the most amazing and wonderful ways.

How a little person could make two other people so much closer?
Maybe, it is that half of me and half of you, are forever forged...
made into one - right before our eyes.

And here we are...
adding on to our family, again.

Not afraid this time.
Just excited.

Because we know how awesome it is.
Even when it is hard.

We know that the happy days out number the ones that aren't.
That arguments just mean that we care.
And the best is still on its way.

So to my husband...
all my love, my whole heart, and all my tomorrows are yours.

Happy Anniversary.

Two Spoons

Two spoons...
to share an apple brown betty
with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Too full from dinner to really need dessert...
but you have to anyway.

Coffee for him
Sips for me.

A really dark restaurant...
and a great date night.

And we were home by nine.
It was dreamy.

Crazy Love

IMG_4033

Our living room is also Eva's playroom.
(My husband is going to kill me.)
Sorry Michael

I clean it and I clean it...
but inevitably, this is what happens when I am trying to accomplish something else.
You know, make dinner, bathroom breaks, make a phone call, laundry, dishes.

The monster is a fast monster.
She can rearrange a room in record time.

This day I let her destroy play in the living room
while I got ready to leave and run errands all morning.

We came home and as I made lunch,
she continued her destruction adventures.

During lunch she decided
to toss her entire bowl of pasta on the floor since the dinning room was clean
she wasn't at all hungry.

I put her down for a nap...
and spent most of her nap cleaning up from the morning.

She awakes, we repeat for dinner.

I love it.
I really, really do.
(Even though it might make me certifiable.)
