the new mommy and me

Liz is one of those very special rare friends.
We found eachother in sixth grade and through the ebb and flow of life have stayed close.
Close as sisters, and that's a better way to describe her - my sister - family.
So when she became a mamma in January - there was no way I wasn't hoping on a plane.

Seeing new a new mommy and daddy.
Snuggling that little peanut.
Oh, that new baby smell!

This was my first trip alone away from my babies.
They were in great hands - mostly daddy's with some grandparent and godparent helpers.
I still missed them something awful.

Good thing I had a snuggly baby to keep my mind occupied.
I did some cleaning and cooking.
Baby rocking and bouncing while mommy and daddy napped.
Her mommy and daddy were very tired.

I know by the time I snuggle her again, she will be twice her size.
She will be sitting up and maybe even starting to crawl.
She will be sleeping more and so will they.
Those first few weeks are some of the toughest and the most precious.

I came home to my babies.
Who seemed bigger than when I left them.
I had worried about Theo with me gone, but it was my Eva that took it the hardest.
And it was her that gave me a 10 minute hug at the airport.
Hugs like that do a momma's heart good...
especially when she wonders how the world her babies grew so fast.

Horses: Photos

We took a detour on our drive.
I think horses are magical.
Eva agreed.

The Drive

Some random snaps from our drive.

Over a bridge.

Watching trucks with grammy.

Horses and horses.

Parkette Drive - Inn
Lunch was yummy.

Milkshakes are yummy.

This way is so much faster.

Salvation Army
We passed it and had to stop.

Thrift Skirt
Some great finds... love this skirt.

More treats from grammy.

There was a road.
These were every mile... for miles and miles.

I thought it was funny - my mom had to stop and reapply deodorant.
That was hilarious.

The drive down was great.
It was almost more fun than the trip itself.

Burgers and onion rings.
Unplanned pit stops and sunshine.

Eva was awesome.
She napped and laughed and napped some more.
Sang and sang.

I had long conversations with my mom.
I forgot how much I miss those.

Road Trip

We have been busy.
Packing and planning a little road trip.
Just Eva, her mommy, and her grammy.

We are having a great time, even though Eva and I are both missing her daddy.
So far we have seen horses, found thrift stores, had lunch at a famous diner, ate lots of candy and visited tons of family.
All that and it is just day one.

Fishing

During the wedding reception
we took a walk on the pier.

There we found some kids fishing.

They needed some help...
or at least the fish did.

IMG_1015

Getting them off the hook an back in the water
still breathing was turning out to be a challenge.

Michael stepped up...
and helped out.

Then we stayed awhile and helped catch some more.
Well, he helped more than me.

she caught the biggest fish of the day.

Beach Favorites

This trip was the best...

Very different and a little bit less of a vacation for me than previous trips...

but a lot of fun.
Watching Eva's eyes light up and squeal at the sight of the water was amazing.

Do you see how wet her pants and my shirt are??

little sandy toes...

 that make perfect little prints.

pretty pictures that daddy took...

We played and visited with friends.

We had a sitter for an evening, but I will admit it wasn't as great as I thought it would be.

We played competitive trivia and won.

Found some garage sales and a treasure or two... yes, even on vacation I hunt.

Had sushi and burgers.

Watched Ohio beat Iowa.
