Questions

eva and cuppy

We went to a friend's house last night for dinner.
They live in an older part of town, with only street parking.
The closest space was a block or two away,

Michael was tied up at the hospital and running late.
I had planned on him being there to help me unload the car.

The extra hands were a requirement...
but I decided to give it a go alone.

I looked hilarious...
diaper bag, portable high chair, bag of toys, dessert...
and one monster.

I left the car with a plan...
drop something and come back and get it.

Eva walked the entire way holding my hand.
No need for the plan - she was a big monster.

These friends are having their first baby in September.
As soon as I made in the door, they started asking questions.

You could tell that they were trying hard not to ask too many, too quickly.
There would be 2-3 baby questions and then a question about the weather or something.

How did Eva sleep?  How did you sleep?  Where did she sleep?
Wow... it is windy today.

When did she eat? How soon did she walk? How many car seats?
So whats new with you?

It was so funny to be on the other side.
Mommy of a big girl monster...
Handing out information to soon-to-be parents soaking it all up.

A knowledgeable mommy...
one that had all the answers...
at least they thought so.

They will figure out the truth soon enough...
there aren't enough answers to figure out a monster.

I have to say, I love my role now being able to actually answer some of those questions! And I try to ALWAYS say, well this is what Annie did, but all the other babies we know are completely different! And I find myself doing the exact same thing to parents of older kids :)

One of our friends has a 20 month old and every time we get together I feel like I spend the first thirty minutes grilling her on what's to come and what we should expect next. Maybe I should remember to take a breath and throw in a question about the weather ;) hahaha

"there aren't enough answers to figure out a monster." this is so true, because it's different experience to each and every 'monster'. Even between siblings, it's different!

but it is great to have a little bit of ideas to be able to answer questions like that!
