Quiet Patience

milk coma
Eva's "milk coma" at one week old.
Well, today started out like yesterday.
Tears, stomping of feet.
Crying and red faces.

We were supposed to be meeting up with an old friend at the zoo.
I also needed to be cleaning for our guest arriving this evening.
I felt my mountain of things piling up.

So I decided to change what I could.
I cancelled the zoo plans.
Put on some quiet music.

Then I looked at me...
stressed and crazy looking.
Asked for some patience and took a deep breath.

I held my monster.
We walked, but I didn't talk.
I rubbed her back and kissed her head.

Then we found a seat the rocking chair...
and we rocked.
No words.
Just hugs and rocks.

She let out a huge sigh and relaxed.
Her body went limp, I said "Love you."
and now is sleeping.

I got a message my guests had to delay their arrival until Saturday.

So I grabbed my cup of coffee...
reheated and sat down to write a post in the middle of the day.
(I usually have them scheduled.)

Taking quiet time for my monster and me.

*Deep breathe* This helped me take a breathe and slow down for a minute. We all need that sometimes! And it's amazing how quickly our little ones respond to it :)

Oh, I really miss the days of "milk drunk" as we dubbed them. Sounds like things have been tough around here... hard (and yet still super fun) age isn't it? Levi's been a handful this week - lots of moodiness and protests and a few full-blown tantrums - and yet he's also been so delightful, hilarious, affectionate. It helps to balance out the crazy, I guess! We just need to remember to BREATHE, ey??! *sigh*

so inspiring. i need to do that more often.

i've thought about that lately, the need to just relax when things get stressful. it's not worth it and what are we trying to prove anyway? :) when i take those moments to just cuddle and read with jack they make all the difference. he's happier, he knows he's loved and my day is a whole lot better ;)
