Highs and Lows

There are moments when it makes me feel like super woman.
Eva and Theodore are happy, fed and dressed.
I am wearing clean clothes and my hair is brushed.

I have made it out of the house...
and back again.
Errands done and still no tears.

Moments where you feel like you have on a red cape and can save the world.
Those are the highs.

Then there was yesterday.
I did manage a shower...
that was the highlight.

Then I answered the door...

Hair damp from the shower...
and now soaking wet on one side.

Theodore screaming because he just had a massive spit up.
That was what was soaking my hair...
some was still running down my back.

At the door was a mommy friend bringing me dinner.
Right when she walks in, Eva decides she needs to potty.

I almost drop Theodore trying to get Eva's undies down.
Her potty is in the middle of the room facing the TV.

The show that I put on for her, so I could feed Theodore, was blaring...
I never turned the volume down.

She brings in the meal...
looks around and looks at me.

The living room is a disaster.
I trip and almost drop Theodore, again.
Stepping and tripping on a block landmine of Eva's.

She puts the bag of food down on the dining room table beside a pile of my undies...
they were at least clean and folded.
She walks into the kitchen put the cold stuff in the fridge.

In the kitchen, the gallon of milk is sitting on the counter - cap missing.
A bottle of expressed milk is waiting to be bagged and frozen on top of the stove.

Dishes mounded in the sink.
Dishwasher door hanging open, things half put away.
A pile of dirty laundry is half way up the door by the basement stairs...
Those undies were not clean.

She offers to put dinner in the oven and get it ready.
I decline the heat-up offer...
sitting down for dinner is a long way off at this point.

Theodore is still screaming.
Eva is dancing for an M&M because she went in the potty.
Naked from the waste down, at my feet.

I say a million thank you's for the food and we say goodbye.
Eva and I smile at the front door and wave.
Then I look down...

I never pulled my shirt back up...
The entire front is all pushed down...

My bra just hanging out.
Nice...

And I start laughing.
Consider me humbled.

oh sweetheart--we are ALL like that some days (almost ALL days when a baby is in the house). Wish I lived close enough to come over and make it a little better...it does get better...it does get better...it does get better....

Side note: This is really silly, but finding an online boardgame can help...my fav is 'ticket to ride". Shut everything else out for a few minutes and let your brain go somewhere harmless and monotonous. Just don't get addicted ;)

Consider your blog readers to be the friends that you never need to clean for. We won't judge you. I wish I were closer. I would love to stop by and give you a helping hand.

Its definitely a roller coaster of ups and downs being a parent. You feel so proud on those good days, but somehow everyday just doesn't pan out like that.
Just rest assured that you are not alone. X

yes, there are those days...reading this took me back a couple months.

You are not alone and it does get better.

Celebrate the small successes throughout the day.

Oh nessa, no worries! My house feels like that now and I have no newborn! It will all work itself out. You just have to keep on plugging along and cherish the highs as well as those lows. Think back to when we had 2 nursing girls who just wanted to flash us all over the place and all we could do was laugh, right? It's always funnier after the crazy settles down. We love you!

I loved how you've described the scene! Although I should say of course I'm completely unfamiliar with it - it never happened to me, nope...never..... Good on you for having a laugh and good on you for getting through those extra challenging days.

Oh man. It's funny but it's so close to home that it's not. Lol it seems that there are no in between days. Just amazing and horrible. Why is that?

Haha! All I can say is YOU GOT A SHOWER! That's more than I get some days, and I have ONE FOUR YEAR OLD. : )

Hopefully you get a nice, calm, relaxing day here soon. You've earned it!

I knew you were leading up to something great! Hilarious!! You are great at painting the whole picture with your storytelling! So cool that you have friends bringing you food!!

Even the shirt down is a red cape moment! I'm glad that you see and recognize that all those little things that can add up quickly don't matter. If the dishes aren't done, so what? If the house is a mess, bah. If we flash our friends? Well that was probably the highlight of their day. There will always be messes to clean up, take it one little thing at a time, but take care of yourself first:) I've been bad at my blog reading and am going to have to go back and read about your new GORGEOUS little boy! Congratulations. And if I lived closer, I'd totally bring you a meal and then tell you to pull your shirt up and give you a giant hug:)
