Ready or not

DSC00897
us circa: before monster
The monster is going to grandma and grandpa's... overnight.
First night away from both of us.

I would have never thought she would be this old for the first time.
Before she was born we planned on a vacation that summer.
A couples vacation...

She would have been 6 months old.
It seemed like a fabulous idea.
A great get-a-way.
Just us - alone.

And then she was  born.
You spend hours and nights keeping her growing.
Days with out showers...

Eyes with dark circles...
Clothes with spit-up stains.

You think this would push us to leave...
run for any time that could be just ours.
But it doesn't.

I mean we talk about it.
Dream about it... in full color.
But doing it... so different.

It is the investment...
of blood, sweat and tears
time, space and self.

You have so much riding on this little human.
You have counted every breath.

You know the hairs on her head.
You know the laugh that means trouble.

You could pick her out of a line-up...
by belly button
by finger nail
by the smell of her head.

No one can be better at it than us...
because we have more riding on it than anyone.
Deeply and entirely invested.

But there is something I am forgetting a little.
The just me and him.
How it started.
Just the two of us.

Staying up late to just talk.
Sitting at dinner until most of the tables are empty.
Waking up in the morning...
without getting out of bed.
The feel of his hand on the small of my back.

Time to remember.

She is ready.
We think we are too...

Joining Flashback Friday at
525,600 minutes and
Christopher and Tia.

Have so much fun!

We haven't left Lizzy overnight yet--no one has offered, but then again, I'm not sure whether or not we'd be up for it even if they did! Since Lizzy doesn't get to see J much during the week, I feel conflicted about leaving her overnight on the weekend, ya know?

Good luck girl! We are hoping for this moment sooner rather then later especially since we have to prepare for October & the hospital stay!
Let us know how it goes! It will be just fine! Remember, grandparents are the 2nd best thing!!

Hi Nessa... I LOVE your blog! So glad I saw ya on Jen's flashback friday. Happy new follower!

Oh man. I can so relate to this post. My lil monkey is 2 1/2 & we've only been away once. Ofcourse it was spent calling Gparents & talking about him constantly. Go figure! You're little monster is too cute!

Good for you! I hope your time is amazing!! We just (last month) had our first night away from Levi. It was a lot easier than I was anticipating actually. And I suppose it helped knowing we were just a few minutes car ride away. (Got a hotel in town for our anniversary.) But yeah, no doubt little M will be just fine... Hope YOU guys will be too! :)
