Snip

IMG_1502

Our monster loves her binks.
She has been a pacifier baby from the beginning.
In the hospital, just a day old she was making her own with the corner of the swaddle.

On the bad side...
I think it is part of why she isn't a big talker...
and it may or may not have caused a rash around her mouth.
(This is has been under debate.)

She only gets it now for naps and bedtime.
Sleep is not something we are excited about messing up.

All I could imagine were late nights with a screaming cranky monster...
I turn into a cranky toddler when my toddler is cranky.
I am weak.

But it needs to go.

On a friend's suggestion, we snipped the tip.
The plan is for it to get shorter and shorter...
until it is useless and then say bye bye binky.

So far... it is going okay.
She is confused as to why it isn't easy to keep in her mouth now.
She pokes it and sticks her finger in the end...
but she is still sleeping.
So far so good.

Ah, Nessa, I will be shortly behind you. My Chloe is a binky baby and I dread taking this step. Although, as with most thing child-related, it's probably going to be a lot harder for ME to say good-bye to the baby-ness that is the pacifier than it will be for her.

Oh, those are hard Mommy moments! Letting go of comfort items and the baby-ness! Our oldest kept her binkie until she was two and she had the hardest time until one day the dog picked it up off the floor and ran away with it. She waved good bye and said "Bye bye binkie!". It was the cutest thing and she never really asked for it again. Maybe she had some closure:) Good luck, she'll be fine in no time!!

my 2 year old has given up his binky, but now he steals his baby brothers, so the battle has returned - good luck with your transition!

Oh man Nessa, this one hits close to home. I feel guilty admitting this, buuuut Jax still has his binky at naptime & bedtime. We tried taking it away "cold turky" & that obviously did NOT work. Snipping it it a really good idea, thank you. He just loves it so much, it's a hard thing to do. I wish you much luck mama!

Oh, girl! We are right there with you. Teagan moves up to the next class at school next week. They sleep on cots and eat at a table. We decided when she moved up to that classroom that it was time for binky to go. It's that time. We are going to give her a week to transition and then we are going to take a weekend and just do it...Cringe...

Luckily, Will has never liked pacifiers, so we won't be faced with this, but I can only imagine how difficult it is. Good luck to you and your monster!!

What an awesome idea! Carter loves his "sucky" but at our pediatrician appointment yesterday she told us it's time to kick it. He only gets it in the car and bedtime but it makes life SO much easier!

I'm interested to hear if this works because we are going to need all the advice we can get.
